Unlike a translator, who changes written words from one language to another, an INTERPRETER renders messages between languages in spoken form. This can be in person both consecutively (one person speaks, interpreter speaks, other person speaks) and simultaneously (interpreter renders interpretation while the parties are speaking, always a few words behind the conversation); or over the telephone. Interpreters also provide "Site Translation" services. Site translation is the oral reporting of written material into the source language (ie; taking a confidentiality form that is written in English and reading it out loud in Spanish to your patient).
